About Us

Our Story

As school counselors, Reins and Rainbows’ founders Terrie and Annette, realized kids don’t speak as openly sitting in an office as when they are doing something.  At the local school district, they worked together on “challenge education” where they did high and low rope facilitation.

This was around the time when the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGLA) was just getting started.

In the first summer, they learned a lot and knew they wanted to serve the community in this way.

As the program took off, the began receiving referrals from DCS, Probation, Hands of Hope (a domestic violence program for adults and children) and self-pay individuals. Terrie and Annette eventually transitioned to working full-time at Reins, and added staff and volunteers.

20 years later Reins and Rainbows operates as a full program, employing 3 full time therapists, 1 skills coach, and 1 Equine Specialist.  Reins also hosts an Internship Program working with Clinical Graduate Students.

Reins currently serves 75 individuals and families weekly.  This is a combination of foster children, pre and post-adoptive services, self-referrals and school-based programs.
