About Us
Our Story
As school counselors, Reins and Rainbows’ founders Terrie and Annette, realized kids don’t speak as openly sitting in an office as when they are doing something. At the local school district, they worked together on “challenge education” where they did high and low rope facilitation.
The Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGLA) was just getting started around this time, and it sparked an interest.

Our History

2002
Terrie Valentine and Annette Dubois attended their first EGALA training. This is when they knew this is what they wanted to do.

2004
Reins and Rainbows began with two horses and a dream. A two-stall barn with no indoor place to work housed the summer-long pilot program which served three families.

2005
Reins and Rainbows officially launched and became a year-round program. Two more horses were added, and they served ten more families.

2006
Four more stalls were added to the barn, and more horses joined the team.
As the program took off, they began receiving referrals from DCS, Probation, Hands of Hope (a domestic violence program for adults and children) and self-referred individuals.

2007
The big expansion- 12 additional stalls and an indoor arena were added to the facility.
They also began taking in rescue horses to be used in the program. And, added three miniature horses to work with children.

2006
Reins’ and DCS began an official partnership. The contract allows Reins to work directly with DCS, without dealing with insurance.
This gives foster children quicker, more streamlined access to therapy.
20 years after opening, Reins and Rainbows operates as a full program. They employ 5 full-time therapists, 1 skills coach, and 1 Equine Specialist. Reins also hosts an Internship Program working with Clinical Graduate Students.
This is a combination of foster children, pre and post-adoptive services, self-referrals, and school-based programs.
